As a director and cinematographer, Janusz always inserts himself into the story, merging the technical with the emotional, creating his own visual voice felt in every scene. Whether using an intentionally scratched lens, a pre-exposed negative, or extreme levels of desaturation, every photographic instrument Janusz uses acts as an inseparable extension of the characters and story itself.
Recognized as one of the greatest cinematographers of all time, Janusz’s groundbreaking work has earned him two Academy Awards and seven Academy Award nominations. His original and distinct style has transformed the very look of American movies, seen through seminal films such as Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Ready Player One.
Janusz’s innovative work continues to redefine modern cinematic storytelling through his films, from West Side Story, for which he earned his most recent Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography, to the Emmy Award nominated best movie of the year, Oslo, through cutting-edge branded content for clients that have included Coke, Cadillac, Nike, Infiniti, Adidas, Burger King, Coors, Playstation, Mercedes, Marriott, Revlon, Sprint, Beautyrest, Toyota, the NFL and many more.
After directing the playfully effervescent commercial Betty Buzz Does Bubbles, starring Blake Lively, and shooting Steven Spielberg’s film The Fabelmans, nominated for seven Academy Awards, Janusz went on to shoot John Krasinski’s feature, IF, starring Ryan Reynolds. Janusz’s new series, The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain, is set to be released later this year on AppleTV+.
