Biography

It all started with a spec screenplay. The Fisher King went on to earn Richard an Academy Award nomination. He then wrote The Bridges of Madison County for Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. After that he stepped into the director’s chair with Living Out Loud, which he also wrote. His writer AND director duties continued on Paris Je T’aimeBelovedThe Ref and Freedom Writers. He adapted the highly acclaimed novels Water for ElephantsUnbroken, and Behind the Candelabra which earned 15 Emmy nominations. He wrote and directed The Last Five Years and recently wrote The Comedian — with Robert DeNiro. Richard conducts words, story, and film like a symphony. Maybe that’s why he loves music so much?
